Unsigned Artists
62Unsigned New Artists
There's a new service called Pure Play Music that is taking unsiged artists and bringing them out to the world, literally. Their service is set up to allow musicians to uploand their music to the Pure Play Music site and allow the world to hear, rate, leave comments and communicate with the artists.
This service is really a great way for unsigned artists to get their music heard without being dependent on the traditional avenues of marketing, such as radio, print and TV.
There have been other services who have tried to do this in the past. Some of them were shysters and really pyramid companies. Others failed because they didn't create a sensed of community.
Pure Play Music allows these unsigned artists to create their own "look and feel" similar to MySpace, with wallpaper, blogging capability and also allows fans to communicate directly with them.
But, Pure Play Music is taking it even further, signing a deal with Dixons Store Group from Europe, to get their music pre-loaded on over 1 million MP3 players. It's this type of pre-loading of music that really gets the unsigned artist into the ears of those who might not have heard them from anywhere else.
I think the Pure Play Music website could use a bit of an uplift, though. I've heard there might be something in the makes. However, the fact that they have a solid following with upcoming artists and fans is a good thing.
Some of the music that I've heard is quite compelling. My tastes are pretty broad, so the fact that their music site attracts artists from all walks, genres and geos is quite compelling.
One of the other unique things about Pure Play Music is that their music is also played in record stores and theatres as ambient music. So, the artist also has that additional venue for being noticed.
What Pure Play Music seems to be providing is a music social networking site with the ability to distribute the independent artists sounds in many different channels. A very admirable service indeed.
