Music Social Networking
60Music Social Network Site
MySpace was one of the first sites to encourage new, independent artists to share their music with the world. Their music social network site became the stanard by which everyone else is measured.
Recently I stumbled upon a company called Pure Play Music. They've created another unique music social network site, making it easy for independent artists to upload their music to share with fans around the world. Their unique interface includes many of the features that made MySpace so special, including a built in music player and blogging component.
The music social network aspect of this site allows fans and artists to interact and communicate with each other. It has instant messaging, blogging and the ability to rate musicians. There's a polling section and the ability to create a group based on shared interests.
I really like the music and artists that they've be able to attract. This makes the social aspect even more appealing as you're able to connect with people and different cultures from around the world.
The fact that Pure Play Music has a partnership to distribute artists' music on over 1 million MP3 players is also very unique. This aspect provides artists from around the world the ability to be heard through many different channels of distribution.
The website interface is bit old style and could certainly use an uplift. However, it is pretty easy to navigate and certainly not-rocket science to use. You have the ability to customize your space with a gallery, friends, and favorites. Certainly, it seems like the intent is to provide users with a unique social networking site built around music.
The front page is probably the most compelling aspect of the site. It looks similar to an iTunes store, with featured artists and videos, as well as "CD" covers and graphics. Most importantly, though, is that this site is first and foremost a venue for independent artists to get their music heard.
